You see, there are seven of them, but they couldn’t go around calling themselves “The Seven” in the streets, because that was already taken, obviously.

So, they go by “The Eight” instead. There used to actually be an Eighth member, but he’s gone now.

They also treat the broomstick as a fully-fledged member of their society and fellow individual.

They make This Guy carry the broomstick around, calling it a “great honor”.

They don’t include him in conversations, though, because he’s “taken a noble vow of silence” and “always chooses to abstain from votes”.
